Baylor wins Great College To Work For
On Tuesday, Baylor University announced the 2022 Great College to Work For, making it the 11th time the university has won the award. Out of 212-colleges throughout the United States, Baylor takes top honors in The Great Colleges to Work For program survey. Baylor takes great pride in the learning environment created by the faculty and staff.
“The Baylor family of faculty and staff commit their time and talents to create a caring community dedicated to leadership, service, academic excellence, and Christian commitment. Beyond the privilege of preparing our students to be leaders and servants throughout the world, employees enjoy an active community, stability, investments in employee success, and outstanding benefits, all of which make Baylor a Great College to Work For,” President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., said in a press release.
Baylor uses their mission to drive the work that is done every day on and off campus, seeking success for the university. The two-part process used in the deciding factors is a questionnaire looking at workplace policies, with a more significant element of if the university got staff feedback.
“My work has a lasting impact,” Amber Adamson, senior lecturer in the Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media, said.
Having an impact on the students and community is something Baylor takes great pride in.
“ My professors are really aware of mental health. It is something that is very important to them,” Kaylee Lake, a Tyler, Texas, junior, said.
Baylor wants to impact one’s employment experience on their well-being, such as the opportunity to do meaningful work while supporting their work/life balance.
Baylor has a generous leave program, letting first responders take paid leave from the university. Also, having an adoption assistance program, Baylor supports their staff through significant events in their life. The faculty and staff get many other perks from the university, including discounted tickets to Baylor athletic events and access to the libraries, museums and dining halls.
By having smaller class sizes, professors get the ability to know their students on a deeper level. Baylor creates an environment that brings students and staff to the university each year to meet mentors that will last a lifetime.
“The journalism department class size allows me to get to know my students. At other state schools, you don’t get to do that,” Adamson said.
Religion remains a large part of Baylor, welcoming students from 50 states and more than 90 countries. The oldest Baptist university in all of Texas, Baylor uses the intersection of religion and learning to connect on a deeper level.
“They do not push religion onto you, but they can talk about their values and beliefs with you. That adds another level of connection in the classroom,” Lake said.
