Fright Night
Screams filled Fountain Mall, along with many laughs to follow as a large group of people entered the tent. Phi Gamma Delta set the tone with costumes, fake blood, and sound effects, putting on a true haunted house for the students and families in attendance.
After a three-year break, Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) hosted Fight Night at the fountain mall on the Baylor campus.
“I came in high school with my friends. It is a great event that I have always enjoyed coming to. Me and my friends would get to come and mess around on campus. These events made my decision to come here much easier,” Baylor sophomore Cortlan Castle said.
There were ten rooms within the haunted house with different themes and members of Phi Gamma Delta in each. Some of the room themes included: Hospital, butcher, clowns, and aliens. Other attractions were also put on throughout the weekend with a photo booth, movies, and food trucks, also at Fright Night.
“I haven’t been to many haunted houses, but man, that did a great job with the setup. I will definitely be coming back next year, ” Baylor sophomore Jack Johnson said.
Baylor students and the Waco community were all welcomed to the haunted house from Wednesday through Friday from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission was free, and the purchase of a T-shirt allowed students to gain a fast pass in line. The proceeds of the event went to the American Red Cross.
“They definitely got me a few times with the jump scares. I wasn’t expecting it to be scary. We were all grabbing onto each other and screaming. Some of the things looked very realistic,” Baylor senior Christina Rogalny said.
Phi Gamma Delta put many hours into the set up of this event for the Baylor students throughout the weekend, with many props and costumes constructed to add effect to the haunted house.
“I definitely lost sleep setting up for this event, but I love it. We all do! Seeing the turnout each year is just so cool. I don’t know if I will be here next year, but if I am, I will be looking forward to it,” Baylor senior Will Crews said
Sororities could also join in and fright night with a new addition to Fright Night, with a banner competition. Banners incorporated their sorority letters with a Halloween twist. The winner of the contest got $500 for their sorority.
“It took us a while to come up with something for it. We knew that everyone else would be good, so we tried to be great. Right after homecoming, it was definitely a hard task because we just got done with the float, but I’m glad they added it,” Baylor sophomore Molly Roberts said.
